In 2009 the price of gold was rising. This could be an incredible opportunity for growth for the Americas division of a major gold mining company. But what was the best way to proceed?
The winning strategy would be the one that worked the best for the company, no matter what the gold industry had in store. So we took a look at the company’s portfolio—describing their current operations and creating a financial simulation. Then we used our methodology to imagine four very different scenarios for the future of the industry. Working closely with our client, we plotted eight different growth strategies and used hard data to assess how those strategies performed in all four future scenarios. We turned the results of our findings into our recommendation for how to pursue this opportunity.
OUTCOME: The company turned our recommendations into action, using the strategy we developed without changing course for three years.
